Waterperry Gardens is a picturesque set of grounds on the former School of Horticulture for Ladies that ran here from 1932 to 1971. Step inside the museum and chat with staff to learn about Beatrix Havergal, who set up the horticultural school in the early 1930s. Let your kids have fun in the play area and look for the deer, rabbits and frogs, among other wildlife here. The grounds are made up of various sections, from the Walled Garden and the Formal Garden to the Alpine Garden and the Allotment Garden.

Preorder one of the picnic hampers to take out and enjoy amid the flowers. Attend one of the regular events set up in the gardens, from temporary floral displays to operatic performances.
Enter the 18th-century barn for the Art in Action Gallery and admire the ceramics, glass and textiles on display. There are also contemporary paintings and arts and crafts.
Waterperry Gardens is in the heart of the village of Waterperry, in the eastern outskirts of Oxford. From central London, drive northwest for about 50 miles (80 kilometers) to get here in 1 to 2 hours. The site opens daily to the public year round from morning until late afternoon. Access most of the estate for free, incurring a fee only to enter the gardens.
