Showell is a quaint and peaceful community in the suburbs of Berlin, a little inland from the beaches of Ocean City. It has a picturesque park with sports fields and play areas, as well as historic buildings. Chat with some of the friendly locals for a sense of the culture in this quiet agricultural hub.
As you drive along the main road, you’ll encounter one of the area’s highlights, the Showell United Methodist Church, which was built in 1903. Admire its white wooden façade and spot the steeple rising high above the rest of the building. Step inside to take shelter from the sun on a summer afternoon and inspect the religious works of art within.
For something a little different, take your family to Showell Park on the eastern side of town. Let the kids frolic in the two playgrounds, one of which is for toddlers, while the other is suitable for older children. Relax on the grass and work on your tan or prepare a picnic and watch one of the softball games arranged in the park. The site also has basketball and tennis courts.
While staying in the area, make sure to stop at the Windmill Creek Vineyard & Winery for a wine tasting, live music, bistro food or the Sunday farmers market. Practice your swing at the River Run Golf Club.
Learn the history of the community, which is named after Samuel Showell, who first owned the land on which it lies. His family went on to purchase much of the surrounding area.
