We had a fantastic time at Peters cottage on the beach. Absolutely loved the location and the super cute cottage. We also toured the island from top to bottom by car, taking in the breath taking scenery. We’ll be back!

Such an amazing place and host!
We had the absolute best trip! This place is ideal in Hooper’s Bay! We were close to Georgetown also. It was the neatest little cottage. Just perfect for my husband and I. Peter was amazing also. The bed was very comfy! The land where the cottage sits has beautiful coconut trees and groves! Just beautiful! It’s not fancy but it is quiet and just perfect for a couples getaway!

Beautiful and secluded location
The location of the property is close enough to everything to be convenient, but far enough off the road to feel totally private. At the end of Hoopers Bay, you get the feeling of being in the real Bahamas and not in tourist central. The property had everything the two of us needed to cook our own meals. We appreciated the outdoor clean off station (shower and hose) and the place to hang up all of our wet swim/dive gear each night. My husband had an epic battle with the tarpon swimming by the front porch at least once a day. Peter was a friendly and helpful host. All in all, we loved our stay.

RIGHT ON THE WATER
The property was perfect for two people to get away and enjoy. The cottage was extremely well stocked, we had everything we needed…towels, linens, personal items, fresh water, kitchen accessories, kayaks, bikes, grill! Peter was always available and helpful. The setting is one-of-kind! The turquoise water is unbelievably beautiful and laps up against the patio all day and night! Already looking forward to our next stay!

The Perfect Escape
If you are looking for a quiet secluded getaway, this is the place for you! A place for two to relax and unwind. Peter was great to deal with, hooked us up with a fishing charter and made us feel like friends. About half way from both ends of the island it is central to everything.

Slice of Heaven
My husband and I stayed at Sunset Cottage for a week and could not have been more satisfied with our choice. You really have to experience this adorable cottage literally on top of the water. You can't get closer....seriously. The turtles swim right up to your patio. It's truly perfect. I totally overpacked for this little spot because everything I brought, Peter had at the home already. From snorkels/flippers to beach umbrellas, bug spray, sunscreen, tons of towels, kayak, paddle boards...charcoal grill with charcoal and lighter fluid...just everything was exactly as stated and then some. A small section of the road to driveway was a little bumpier than average but we are from the country and have driven worse and we rented the smallest car and it was nothing. Just be aware and don't let it deter you from when you turn the cornet and see that beautiful, Exuma blue water. We rented a boat while staying and Peter let us hook up to the mooring right in front of the house so we could keep the boat overnight. Everything about this house was perfect. It had two little private beaches on each side of the patio, an outdoor bathroom and shower too much to name. Perfect for our honeymoon.💗💗💗 Peter always responded quickly and made sure we had everything we needed. Truly a dream vacation. Thanks again!

Turtle heaven
Every morning we were greeted by two to four turtles right off the porch overlooking the most amazing blue water of Hoopers Bay.... That in itself was worth the stay! Peter, the property owner was amazing, he took us out on a tour of the islands off of Great Exuma, where we saw the pigs, iguanas, and dove for fresh conch (in which Peter made conch salad with).... Peter had tons of information about the many islands we toured and had lots of cool spots for photos... This excursion was absolutely amazing and will be the standard for all excursions to come and I seriously doubt it will ever be equaled, let alone surpassed... He is full of information for places to get food and drinks, nice beaches, water taxi to the chat n chill on Stocking Island and much more.... This was the first of many trips to Exuma and we will defiantly be back to this little slice of heaven... Thank you Peter for sharing this unique location and your beautiful island... We can't wait for our next visit!

Great location in many ways.
Sunset Cottage is fantastic. Everything you need is here from beach towels to cooking utensils. The sea turtles are amazing, there are usually 2 - 8 turtles anxiously awaiting you to feed them lettuce. The cottage is in the bay nicely sheltered from the wind and has great sunsets. Peter is a great host, gives you a quick rundown of the place, is there if you need anything and leaves you alone for the rest of your vacation. It was everything we expeted for our vacation.

The Best of Exuma - Again!
My wife and I just returned from a wonderful 18 day stay at Sunset Cottage. This was our second consecutive stay at Sunset Cottage and our eight consecutive year vacationing on Exuma. Needless to say, we love Exuma, and our favorite place on the island has become Hooper Bay and Sunset Cottage. As described in my review from last year ("The Best of Exuma" ), Sunset Cottage is ideal for two people, is clean and comfortable, has the most spectacular location, and is hosted by two terrific people, Peter and Rita Burrows. And for those not wishing to rent a car, the cottage is conveniently located a short, pleasant walk from two grocery stores and a liquor store. As we have explored the island on previous visits, we now prefer to spend our time relaxing at Sunset Cottage and enjoying the beach, swimming, using the kayaks and paddle boards, painting, and reading. Except for a couple of visits to see friends who were anchored off Stocking Island, we spent our entire stay at the cottage and loved every moment of it. Sunset Cottage is an ideal place for a couple to relax, spend time together, and to recharge. We absolutely love being there, are very appreciative of Peter and Rita's hospitality, and are always sad to leave. The only thing that helps leaving is knowing that we will be returning again next year. As I stated last year, we cannot say enough wonderful things about Sunset Cottage and Peter and Rita.

Amazing, indescribably amazing.
It was more than I could ever have imagined. This was one of the best, most insightful and spectacular travel experiences of my life. The cottage is an island of sorts, equipped with whatever a single person could need. The location is perfect, the house is clean, all of the mechanicals work, there are turtles in the sea out front, the bed was comfortable, there was a television that got CNN and South Florida public television, WiFi was great, all I can say is that this place is perfection. I've been in Wisconsin for 24 hours and I wish I could have stayed there forever. The host is a very knowledgeable man who knows the islands intimately. and he went out of his way to help me learn about Exuma and Bahamian life. The day we spent on his boat to visit "blue holes", and snorkel, is probably the most memorable and moving event of my life. I hope to return, once my sunburn heals. Grocery store is very close, everything you could need. I wish that there were more superlatives in the English language to describe this place, and its owner.

Right on the water!
We spent a week at Sunset Cottage. The property is rustic and has all the basics you need. But what makes this property is it's location. Hooper's Bay is awesome place with lots of turtles, rays and I even saw a nurse shark one day. The patio is right on the edge of the water and at high tide the water is touching the retaining wall below the patio. So you can just sit back with your favorite beverage and enjoy. It's the last house on that side of the bay so you really get very few people down that way (Even more then normal in Exuma.) Peter was not in town but made sure someone looked in on us and made sure we where good (he was easliy reached by phone if needed.)There are kayaks and paddle boards for your use and the bay is pretty protected from the wind (if it is up.) The place is very simple so if your looking to do a lot of cooking probably not the kitchen you want. Don't get me wrong everything is there and works but just basic stuff to cook with. It does have a Weber grill which we used one night for steaks (Prime meats is the place to go, 5 min away and there is also another store close as well.) Wifi worked fine as well as AC and TV. It also has an outside toilet room (for the boys:) Plus washer and dryer which is also great. Make sure to hit Santana;s and Mom's Bakery (Next door to Santana's.) We also hit the St. Francis (Over by Chat & Chill.) for lunch (good harbor view) and you can walk over to the Atlantic side from there if you like. Used Thompsons for car rental and make sure to rent a boat at Minn's for at least a day if not two. P.S. I think the potholes have gotten better (less of them) since last year, others said the same we spoke to.

Awesome spot
Great clean and cool little cottage on Hoopers Bay. Great setting with awesome beach and tranquil/clear water on the Turtle Highway. Cottage was clean, well air conditioned, had all the necessities for a fun vacation. We cooked often with all the great kitchen amenities. Had an ice chest for day trips, also. Place could use a little better sofa or love seat, however, I still give it five stars. Peter is a great owner and host. Location on Exuma was ideal for everything!

A Villa with breathtaking views!
Peter and Rita were fabulous hosts. We rented the beachfront cottage. When we arrived Peter offered the Villa. A beautiful home on top of a hill with fabulous ocean views. The wraparound porch with the breeze made an ideal spot for breakfast outside and drinks in the evening. The Villa is large and well appointed. A short drive puts you on beautiful crystal clear waters. We swam with sea turtles every day. We were also able to stay in the water front cottage also. You are literally sitting right on the waters edge. What a view!! The cottage is perfect for a couple and the Villa is ideal for families.

Great location, terrible house
The owner needs to update the photos from 4 years ago before a hurricane destroyed the retaining wall in front of this property leaving the entire front porch in the water. While we love the sound waves you wake up and fall asleep to the annoying waves crashing against the concrete slab of the PORCH. The beach shown in the photos has been erroded away also. All this tho was the least of our concern. The house condition is miserable. The stove, the burners were disguisting, the rusty knives, the inside bottoms of the pots were so bad that we couldnt cook anything. The bathroom needs updating. The spring matress in the bedroom was soo uncomfortable we would wake up sore and stiff. If you stay here be prepared to play wack a mole with the flies. We could go on and on and we wish there was a way to upload the photos we took. Amazing island amazing beaches but pick a different house.

The Best of Exuma
Recently my wife and I enjoyed 18 wonderful, relaxing days at Sunset Cottage. Although this was our first year staying at Sunset Cottage, it was our seventh year vacationing on Exuma. We are pretty familiar with the island, including Hooper Bay, but just to visit the beach, not to stay. We have thoroughly enjoyed each of our previous visits, but our stay at Sunset Cottage was undoubtedly our best vacation in all the years I we have been visiting Exuma, and other islands in the Bahamas. The cottage is very comfortable for two people, is clean, well equipped, and has the most beautiful location sitting right on the beach, and at high tide, actually extending into the crystal clear water. The cottage is secluded from the main road, is located at the far end of beach, and is very quiet and peaceful, with perhaps only the occasional person walking the beach even coming near. Exuma is a beautiful island, with many sights and spectacular beaches to explore. But as we had explored the island many times before, we were very content to spend most of our time at the cottage, on the beach, or in and on the water. The cottage comes with kayaks, paddle boards, and dive gear which we used everyday. We also cannot say enough kind things about our hosts, Peter and his wife Rita. They made sure we were comfortably settled into the cottage, occasionally stopped by to see if we needed anything, but certainly gave us all the privacy we wanted. Plus they are genuinely very nice people and fun to speak with. We enjoyed our stay at Sunset Cottage so much, after less than a week, we booked another 18 days at Sunset Cotfage for 2020. We cannot say enough wonderful things about Sunset Cottage and Peter and Rita.

A beautiful piece of heaven that Peter has.
With the property located just steps away from the crystal clear water of the Caribbean and sea turtles coming up to be petted what more could a person ask for. We traveled from one in of Exuma all the way to Little Exuma. Every we stop people were friendly and the food was good. There were a couple of place that were shut-down because in October it is the "off-season" but were opening backup in November. Santana's on Little Exuma had the best BBQ and Grouper also, Mom's Bakery next door specialize in GREAT Rum Cake.. Big D's Conch Shack had outstanding Conch fritters and Conch burgers! Weather was perfect. One needs a car from Thompson's Car Rental at the airport to get around and see all the sites. Thanks Peter!

Simple house on best beach on the island
If you are looking for a simple place to stay that comes with an AMAZING experience, this is it! The sea turtles in the bay were incredible to watch each day. It's not like you see them once or twice during the week, you see them several times every day. Peter is a great man and helped us with everything we needed including giving advice on booking tours, restaurants and more. He was always available when we needed him and we can't thank him enough for such a wonderful vacation. I would recommend this vacation property to anyone!

The Perfect Place
My husband and I stayed at Sunset Cottage earlier this month. It was a special treat to celebrate my 50th birthday!! And what a dream come true!! It was our first time to Exuma and hopefully won't be our last. Peter was very helpful and generous! We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in a sweet little beach house. We heard the wonderfully peaceful sound of the waves day and night. We had a great time kayaking and enjoying the beautiful view! My favorite part was seeing the sea turtles!!!! Our last day, I waded out in the water in front of the house and saw seven sea turtles (or one turtle seven times!) ;+) Smitty's store is very close and we liked cooking meals and enjoying the cottage. The laundry facilities were also very beneficial. We rented a car so we could explore Exuma and little Exuma. I highly recommend going to Coco Plum Beach, Tropic of Cancer Beach, Santana's and going over to Stocking Island, Chat'n'chill on Sunday is really fun. The cottage is conveniently located near George Town and a lot of the local restaurants have live music - Rake'n'scrape. We really loved listening and dancing - everyone is so friendly. Hope you have an amazing vacation wherever you go but I know you won't be disappointed if you go to Exuma and stay in the Sunset Cottage.

Loved our stay at the Sunset Cottage on Hooper's Bay
This was our 2nd visit to Exuma and we love staying on Hooper's Bay near Georgetown. We prefer staying in cottages rather than condos or home shares and the Sunset Cottage on Hooper's Bay was perfect for us. We found the cottage to be homey and cozy and perfect for the 2 of us. It has everything needed for a relaxing stay, and we enjoyed cooking and having our breakfast out of the oceanfront patio looking for sea turtles which swim by often. There were kayaks and paddle boards onsite for us to use, and paddling the incredible waters of Hooper's Bay was fantastic. There was an outdoor shower for rinsing off after time in the ocean, a washer and dryer onsite for doing laundry, a fully equipped kitchen and full size frig, plus ample beach towels and a cooler. We loved spending time out on the back patio just gazing out over the beauty of Hooper's Bay, and when motivated, grabbing a paddle board for some water time. We found the location to be extremely quiet, with the most noise coming from the waves and ocean, lol. At night we would go outside and check out a star filled sky that was breath taking. The cottage is equipped with 2 AC units, but it was so comfortable at night in late Feb with the windows open that we never used the AC. Smitty's Market, the Fish Fry and Georgetown are just a short drive away. The cottage doesn't pretend to be perfect or high end, but we don't seek perfection or high end lodging, rather great value for our lodging dollar. And the cottage delivers this completely. From the very 1st day of our stay, we felt so at home and relaxed here. We are very fortunate to be able to travel and seek out places like the Sunset Cottage wherever we go. Thanks Peter for a great stay at the cottage and for the awesome boat tour of the Exuma Cays. See you on our next visit to Exuma.
