Downtown Fort Lauderdale, FL

Fort Lauderdale

Along with an enviable beach, this urban location has a pleasant mixture of glitz and charm. Walk straight through to be greeted by the ocean at the end.

Known as the glamorous Venice of America, Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s position in South Florida makes it a modern sub-tropical urban center. Sunny days and warm nights make a vacation here quite comfortable. Numerous attractions and experiences serve your traveling soul. Get a feel for the area by walking down Las Olas Boulevard where shopping, eating and meandering are among the main reasons to visit.

You can travel through this state going from tiki bar to tiki bar, but Mai-Kai on North Federal Highway is considered by some to be the world’s best tiki bar. Have a seat at this respected establishment that is noted for its American Polynesian cultural and dining experience. It’s also on the National Register of Historic Places. Buy a book or newspaper at Bob’s News and Books. The newsstand is open every day and continues to build on its over 50-year history.

Visit Historic Stranahan House Museum located by the river near the end of the boulevard and surrounded by high-rise towers. This is where the city began in 1893 when Frank Stranahan moved to the area. Explore this tastefully preserved home on one of the daily tours.

While near the water, look for the riverboat Jungle Queenon which colorful commentary is provided about the sights you’ll see at the waterfront. Various celebrities and wealthy individuals have chosen the city for their residence. Notice the high density of mansions.

Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding area have over 300 miles (480 kilometers) of navigable waterways, part of the Intracoastal Waterway, with canals providing its Venetian likeness. A dynamic yacht-building industry also contributes to its informal title as the yachting capital of the world. Nearby Port Everglades is a major port for cruise ships.

Find Downtown Fort Lauderdale by exiting off Broward Boulevard to Andrews Avenue and onto Las Olas Boulevard. Enjoy the city’s beautiful beaches, just one component of all the area has to offer.
