Adorable Honeymoon Cottage by the Lake

This vintage summer cottage is across the road from the lake bluff, and offers a lovely view of the lake and is a quiet, rustic getaway for newlyweds or young families with one or 2 small children. This is not a good choice for folks who are "condo people"--in other words, it's small, old fashioned, and not for everyone.

The deck provides a place to grill your dinner as you sip a cool chardonnay from the nearby winery as you watch your children playing on the swingset. The small but serviceable kitchen has everything one would need, including coffeemaker and microwave, pie plate and rolling pin!

The DOUBLE bed is brand new in 2022, the hide-a-bed has a blow up mattress, and linens are provided. The beach access is just a short walk away. (one quarter mile) and features a creek which will delight the little ones. Unfortunately in 2021 the beach was very rocky, but it changes all the time, so we’ll see what 2022 brings. Other local beaches are open, and have been listed among the best beaches in the world!. Check out the county park about five minutes north, the Casco preserve, which is about 5 miles south. South Haven and Saugatuck both have impressive beaches as well. Glenn is situated between South Haven and Saugatuck, making it ideal for swimming, shopping excursions, wine tasting, brewery hopping, or for renting a boat or wave-runner. Great restaurants are within 10-15 minutes in 3 directions. This is a cottage for those who want to get away from it all, but want to be within reach of all the action. There is a convenience store in town that has an amazing selection of wine and spirits, snacks, pizza, and the New York Times.

On a rainy day, we provide puzzels, toys and games and a collection of old Disney VHSs that can be played on our small TV. There's a movie theater in South Haven with the lowest prices imaginable that plays movies popular with children and adults.

Check out our history: The Kerr family has been vacationing on Fabun Road since the early 1900's when my great grandmother, Henrietta, came from Chicago to spend summers here, playing organ for the local girl's camp. She subsequently bought the property next door to the camp. To get here every summer, she had to take a boat across the big Lake, land in South Haven, where she would get on a horse drawn hay wagon with her trunk full of her summer clothes, and once she got to the cottage, she stayed for the whole summer. Her house still stands at 1286 Fabun Road. My father spent summers here as a boy, and so did I. We didn't have a phone in the old days, or a TV, or even running water! We played Monopoly or Sorry, and card games, and built fires on the beach. When we kids would get bored, my mom would just send us out for a walk in the woods. It helped me learn how to enjoy my own company, and be creative. I think every child should spend summers on Fabun Road!

This Was a Mistake
We are travelers and rely on VRBO descriptions. It didn't work this time. There is vintage and then there is old. This was old. We debated as to whether to comment on this rental but decided that it might encourage the owner to make a few updates. I have only complained one other time in the many years we have used VRBO but there needs to be some attention to a variety of things on this rental. There was one wash cloth and a few older towels. The bathroom sink was not appealing at all...but the shower was nice. Faucets were leaking in the sinks. The kitchen stove burners really needed attention and I agree with another person who responded...a good yard sale visit would provide a much more complete line of dinner wear...cracked and stained is not appealing. Silverware needs to be in a drawer, not just sitting out. Good refrigerator but the rest...well, not as good. There is one mirror in the bathroom and that is all ! I would love to spend $500 on a Walmart trip and get some curtains, window shades, new waste containers, some towels, etc. This could be a cute place but there is just wear and tear from many years of being lived in. We did smile (someitmes) at the lack of internet service and the TV. I haven't seen a TV like that for many years. We don't need all that stuff but some people might like it. The description didn't quite 'describe' this property. A honeymoon cottage it is not. The lake was beautiful but not accessible - difficult path.

I couldn’t rave about this place more. My best friend and I wanted a quiet girls weekend at the beach and this place was key to our experience. We absolutely loved down to every detail, I felt I was in my grandmas house and it couldn’t have been more welcoming. We even rewound and watched grease on vhs on our little tv in the bedroom one night and had a sunset fire outside the other. The views from the cottage were spectacular, sunset walks are definitely recommended. Though the beach access was farther than we had anticipated and the path down to the beach was a bit treacherous we braved it and enjoyed exploring. We traveled to South Haven just a fifteen minute drive away for our beach days however, much less rocky and also amazing. If you want to stay at a modern updated pristine spot, this isn’t your place. If you want to feel like you’re stepping back in time to a simpler place, surrounded by pink, floral, and familiarity this is it. We loved our time here so much and definitely want to return!

Honeymoon cottage
This was our 2nd year here, on our 1st anniversary. Small cottage perfect for two adults. With Lake Michigan across the road, we could watch sunsets every night. Don't count on beach access however; neighborhood sits on a bluff above the lakeshore, with difficult access. Howerver, the wonderful beaches at South Haven are 20 minutes away. , and the many attractions of SW Michigan are convenient. Plus, a beautiful neighborhood. Cautions about the cottage: the full-size bed is small if you're accustomed to queen or larger; the only heater is a small space heater (not relevant most summer weeks, but our stay was CHILLY). Finally, cottage is small, don't bring a lot of stuff!

Unplugged weekend escape
The perfect sweet tiny lake cottage if you want to just chill and enjoy the quiet and sound of the water for a couple of days. The cottage is simple, but it has everything you need to hang out by the lake and the walk to the public beach access is quick and easy. We had a great time.

It was our second time staying here, we have enjoyed it both times. We love the convenience of walking to the beach from the cottage. It is simple and nothing fancy but that doesn’t bother us a bit. We will be going back!

Beautiful Cottage
We really enjoyed our stay in the Gingerbread Cottage. It was very comfortable. I especially liked taking morning walks and being able to see Lake Michigan from the bluff. The convenient location meant we were able to visit eight different beaches during our stay. We are talking about returning in 2023.

Quaint old fashioned cottage. Simply decorated with vintage decor. Not extravagant but all the necessaties are there. The lake access is about a quarter mile of a walk away. You can see Lake Michigan from the cottage deck and watch the beautiful sunset. You can not trespass on the property across the road to look over the bluff. Very quiet and relaxing.

Update on details
Cabin was quaint and quiet, just what we were looking for. The internet was available maybe 15% of the time. There is no central heat in the cottage, just a space heater and an electric blanket, which should have been disclosed in the property details. The grounds were unkept and weedy, made worse by the very pristine properties on either side. The photo provided for the property does not reflect current appearance. The mattress was terrible, so soft that when used by two people we continually rolled to the center. We were told that it was a new mattress at the end of last year. The owner stayed connected which was nice. Glen is a very small and wonderful community. A nice place to relax.

A real honeymoon cottage
This rental was perfect for us, a 70-something newlywed couple: small, cozy, yet containing all the necessities for us. Not luxurious, but with a beautiful view of nearby Lake Michigan and a secluded neighborhood of magnificent homes, we felt pampered. Downside: no easy Lake access. We went to the beach at South Haven (10 miles south) and liked it so much we went back the next day. Many other area amenities. This property's manager was very accessible and helpful

Was a great property in a nice quiet location . If you are into getting away from the hustle and bustle of city living for a weekend or so. The property manager was an absolute sweetheart and made sure we had the things we needed and kept good communication thru the weekend . I loved the simplicity of it , kinda brings you back to a time long gone in a good way. Lol there was a tv/vhs combo that was cool to me and brought me back a few years on the rainy day lol i forgot to grab a few of my old vhs but there was a good little selection already there. Way i see it, if you're on vacation a tv shouldnt matter but was nice on the rainy day.

This cottage is simple and very 1930’s. No tv, or internet in the house. We loved being off the grid and in the quiet of the past. Wonderful views of Lake Michigan. Cute cottage!
This cottage was perfect for my friend and I to have a girls weekend! Rustic and charming, but the location is the real kicker. The views of Lake Michigan and beach access were amazing. Currently there is a huge steep hill to get down to the beach access, so that may be challenging for some. We were able to easily go into saugatuk and south haven, but the cottage is very secluded and peaceful!

Rain rain go away
The property was exactly as described in the listing. The location is great. People are friendly. The beds are a bit rough to sleep on. Definitely something to consider. The rain was not something we anticipated when we booked. Would be a great place to open all the windows and enjoy the breeze but we can't control the weather. The owner lives near by and was very sweet. She provided a binder with lots of places to go with maps. She recommended to visit a local winery that was family friendly. Virtue cider. Definitely recommend. The swing set was a bonus for the kiddos. Thank you for having us!
