4. Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum

The Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum has Warren Somerville to thank for its existence. The famed fossil collector grew up in New South Wales and from childhood through adulthood amassed a significant collection of minerals, crystals and old bones. Today, his specimens are housed at the museum, located in an 1876 Gothic-style building in the Bathurst Town Square precinct. Fitting of its family-friendly appeal, the historic location was once a public school.
