Visit Regency Square for a window into the aesthetics of 19th-century Brighton. White terraced houses and hotels of elegant Georgian design surround a grassy central square. Stroll around this serene and stylish open space for a sense of the city in the 1800s.
Admire the array of old-world buildings surrounding the grassy area at its core. The southern side is left open, enabling stunning views of the sea. Bring supplies for a picnic with your family in this historic setting, taking in the vista of the water.
Expect to find families playing soccer and other sports on the large field, which comprises two leafy sections connected by a concrete parting and a set of steps. Hedges and bushes lap around the edge of the northern field.
Look up at the balconies and terraces on the façades of the buildings. One structure features a pediment displaying the title: Regency Square. Inspect the war memorial to the Royal Sussex Regiment, who lost their lives in the Boer War. Contrast old and new, with a glimpse of the futuristic British Airways i360 tower that rises from the southern side of the plaza.
The square is an important part of the local community. The Regency Square Area Society was set up to help local residents and businesses with a variety of issues. Stay at one of the hotels and bed-and-breakfasts overlooking the square. Browse the array of boutiques and stores in the West Pier Arches in the southwestern corner of the plaza.
Regency Square is on the western side of the city center of Brighton. Walk west from the Brighton Palace Pier for about 15 minutes to get here.
