Limited dining - couldn't get a coffee after breakfast, kitchen was closed between breakfast (12pm) and lunch (1pm) Inconvenient - property is located on a hill making it difficult for seniors that don't walk very well, also people not staying at the resort weren't able to get into the resort to meet friends at the restaurant There was a sign at the resort advising what the taxi rates were. This sign is outdated. Also, the concierge may get taxi driver friends to pick up people as the taxi driver charged us twice the amount quoted saying the amount was per person. Unsafe - the door to our room looked like it had been kicked open showing light through the cracks in the door. The drain cover in the shower moved so a person could have stepped into the drain, hurting themselves. There wasn't a fridge in the room. The safe required a lock, which you could rent. The couch looked dirty. Some of the towels looked old. The maids didn't leave 2 of everything or missed them altogether e.g. facecloths. Happy Hour didn't include beer. Sometimes 2 for 1's were double charged.

I found that the maid did an excellent job. We had a jr suite ( rm 609 ) snd found the room in need of major updates. Then bed and pillow were comfy, water pressure was great and always had hot water. Pool is missing a lot of tiles and needs repair. When you return ur towel, make sure that ur done with it for the day. They will not allow u to take out any more. They do not inform you of that rule. When taking a taxi back to the airport, walk down the street a bit as the hotel inflates the standard zone fare. This is our second time staying there and i dont think that we would return.

On arrival, the staff greeted us nicely and assisted with our baggage. Unfortunately the check in staff was unpleasant at the desk. We were told the room wouldnt be ready for 1 hour, eventually another staff member came by and took us up to our room as they were just finishing the floor. Yes the hotel is old and dated, but the room matched the photos and we expected it to be a bit dated. The location is amazing, easily accessible to everything. The beach is nice, however the beach chairs are not comfortable as are the pool chairs, but again it is a budget hotel. Towels are provided each day and returned by the end of the day for no charge. The pool worked well for us, some days was busier than others but overall we enjoyed it. We ended up getting a Jr suite with our booking, so we were lucky to have a fridge. We had talked to some other guests who didn't have a fridge but they were able to find a Styrofoam cooler and ice for their drinks. We didnt eat at the restaurant, and heard from other guests to avoid it. In a pinch it might be an okay option to eat. We would definitely stay again if we are in PVR

Firstly, I would like to acknowledge Noemi at the front desk for being kind and accommodating. The bell boys were eager to help. There is a younger man at the front desk that was curt and rude. The maids were sweet and kind. The resort itself is dated and could use a refresh. Our shower drain was completely broken off and we had to be careful that we didn’t step into the hole. The beach chairs are OLD and UNCOMFORTABLE. Where are the loungers. When I’m at the beach, like to lay down not sit in a SAGGY chair. If there’s one reason why I wouldn’t come back and to this resort is because of those beach chairs. All in all I give this Hotel a 3/10

We stayed for 10 days. Ask for Fernando, he is excellent he remembers what you are drinking and checks on you (pool/beach). Housekeeping came by approximately same time everyday and cleaned the room, left a work of art with the towels....Just know you can use Uber down there it is cheaper than the taxis. We love it!!!!!

It is a beautiful property, very clean every day. Employees are nice to work with and helpful with answers. Love the pool and bar area. I wish they used fabric softener on the shower towels, and i wish there were more than one outlet in the Jr. Suite. Some outlets by the bed would be nice for phone and alarms in the morning. Beautiful views from this property too.

The Tropicana had a wonderful beach area and wonderful service. The rooms and hotel grounds were very clean. The only downside would be that the elevators ding really loudly and woke me up in the mornings. It would also be nice if you could get food service (especially morning coffee) to your room.

We requested a room change to double beds (from one king) and the front desk was very accommodating despite the property being sold out. In particular Victor was extremely helpful and professional in meeting our needs. This property is a gem. Location is unbeatable on the beach. 2 large pools. Rooms are not in the most up to date condition, but maintained well and very reasonably priced compared to the neighboring hotels.

The internet did not work most of our stay there. High speed internet was advertised but not available. The exterior building was run down and not in good repair. I wouldn't book this if you need internet for work or other reason. The one good thing about this hotel is that it is close to the downtown area and near good restaurants.

Very well located right on the beach, friendly staff, great pool and restaurant area. Please be aware there is NO parking in the hotel. They claim to have parking but there is never room, they want a tip to give you access to a spot "just happen to open" if you give them a tip, and getting in and out of the 'lot' is impossible due to the tight set up. Because the hotel is located in a very small street, street parking is generally not available either. Best parking is a few blocks away.

Two stars: one for a place to sleep, one for air conditioning (a noisy portable wall unit). Otherwise, nothing to recommend about this place. Dirty walls, water spots on ceiling, crumbling grout, mold around the shower, ancient appliances, super thin walls. Location is excellent, however - right on the beach. Which is good, because you won’t want to spend any unnecessary moment in your room.

Everything was good until they told me my guest needed an ID which is fine and understanding and safe, but when they told me I had to pay for a bracelet so I could have a visitor, I mean we already pay a lot as it is, why pay extra for a quick visit?

To be a last min trip was perfect it was a nice hotel really clean it has a lot nice views and easy access's to the beach everything was walkable there a lot restaurants around the area to choose from, 3min walk to the malecón I would really come back to it.

We love staying at Hotel Tropicana! We have been coming here for years and will be back. The location is great, everything is in walking distance. There are tons of amazing dining options in the area. The hotel is clean, the staff are wonderful. Can’t wait to come back!

All in all, this property exceeded all expectations. Some other reviews knocked this hotel. You get what you pay for. I was paying for a great location and got it. Everything else was a bonus. Clean rooms and excellent staff. I would recommend this hotel, but realize this is an older hotel with some history and a few bruises.

Second visit this month. Again I had reserved a "Superior" room with a sea view. I put in a request for a non-ground floor room (room security is suspect.) Again I was given a ground floor room overlooking their trash and loading area. They blamed Expedia for advertising the sea view. Said they had been told to put sea view if available.

Room type “not available” …. Room given was adequate, had to repair air conditioner (leaking water) 4 times and finally correctly fixed after request of room change . Rooms need updating but pool and gathering areas beautiful as always! Food/drink servers “on strike” so no food drink available day after arrival ….. plenty of offerings within walking distance but happy it was resolved. Do not exchange $ here … 2 pts less than banks

In its hay day this place was great I think. It is still a great location. The beds were very comfortable and there have been updates to rooms to modernize it. There needs to be more attention to detail in cleaning (walls, toilet paper holder, windows sills and windows in halls). Grout around sink was old or missing and lighting in bathroom was horrible-dark. There is limited to no decor in hallways and in rooms. Internet was intermittent in rooms. Staff was great. There was no drinking water dispenser in lobby so no drinking water available around property except one bottle first day of arrival. Overall good for location of course.

The Hotel was clean and orderly, the staff were helpful, pleasant to deal with and appeared to be enjoying what they werre doing. The Hotel is in an area that is within walking distance from restaurants, shops and the downtown area of Puerto Vallarta. The location is quiet and peaceful.
