A visit to the Penske Racing Museum is a walk through the ages of one of the most successful racing teams in the United States. Founded in 1965, Team Penske has since raced to victory at events such as the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR races. Plan a day at the museum to admire examples of the team’s original and replica race cars.
Racing and automobile enthusiasts will love seeing a reproduction of the 1963 Pontiac Catalina driven by team founder Roger Penske when he won the NASCAR Riverside 250. Spot the 2009 Dallara that Brazilian racer Helio Castroneves drove to victory at the 2009 Indy 500. The cars highlight Team Penske’s ability to compete in events that range from Formula One to the Trans-Am Series and Supercar Championship. Alongside the cars are driver helmets and photos taken at famous races.
Make your way up to the second floor to enjoy tasty breakfast and lunch options at the museum’s café. Decorating the walls are a collection of dazzling winning trophies. In over half a century of racing the team has amassed more than 500 victories, including 18 Indy 500 wins. Grab a seat on the mezzanine to watch cars being driven around the test track and see Land Rovers on an off-road course.
Also on the second floor is the Team Penske merchandise shop. Browse for die cast cars and auto racing-inspired books and clothing for all ages. For the ultimate racing souvenir, purchase T-shirts and unique car parts autographed by world-renowned drivers.
Located in the southeastern corner of Scottsdale’s Desert View Village neighborhood, the museum is a 30-minute drive from Downtown Phoenix. Driving is the most convenient way to get here and parking is available.
Penske Racing Museum is open daily and admission is free. Combine your time at the museum with a wander around the adjacent luxury car dealerships. Within a short walk are high-end Lamborghinis, Maseratis and Porches.
