The check in process was frustrating. They treat things as if it is a timeshare. They hold your room key and pass you off to multiple people who are trying to sell you on a membership (basically a timeshare). The expectations for tips was excessive and in your face. The resort itself is small. There was no daily entertainment, no decent kids activities, and food service was unpredictable on time. One dinner took over an hour to be brought out. The a/c in our room didn’t work well. We will not be staying at a Marival resort again.

Checkin - the process is annoying as you have to sit and wait. They wanted us to sign up for the sales pitch for the property. Room. It’s muggy in the room and the a/c is not great. We didn’t see bugs but my husband had bites all over his legs. The rooms were very good though our soaking tub was not cleaned upon arrival. Food. The food was fairly good. Minus the mosquito in my kid’s pancake. there are only 2 places for breakfast and everything is a wait. It was impossible to get food service at the pool or beach. You cannot wear beach attire to the beach restaurant. The alcoholic drinks were sooo diluted. I watched the bartenders repeatedly make the drinks and they were skimping on the alcohol. The blended drinks were the worst. There are two other restaurants you have to pay to use. Do not. It was essentially the same food you could get in the other “included” restaurant. Amenities. Aside from the pool, there is not much. The fitness center is okay but the hours are limited as it is housed within the same building as the spa. So you have to go through the spa to use. They also would not let my teenager use the fitness center even while I was there. Some staff were friendly and prompt but most were not. They seemed very unhappy to be there and one woman had a black eye which was unsettling.

It’s been our 7th visit. First time we felt that we’ve been somewhat economized on.Omagio restaurant turned into buffet for breakfast vs menu. For three nights we were torched with Mexican food while other choices were limited. Guys on beach always super helpful super service there. We’ll come again for sure just having a perspective of 6th past trips certain things discerned above were unexpected.

We booked an “ocean view suite” the room we got faced the pool and had a little glimpse of the ocean above the palm trees”. Incredibly misleading Our room had multiple issues. The door handle to the bedroom was broken, my wife locked herself in the room and couldn’t get out. Toilet did not flush, sinks were clogged. We had to get maintenance perform work for 2 hours in our room. The front concierge lady may be the rudest staff person on the resort. She has glasses with strawberry blonde hair. Regardless of what you ask she responds in a condescending tone and constantly interrupts you. She first booked us a restaurant located on an entirely different resort. Surprised, we jumped in their shuttle and got dropped there. After walking through the 2nd resort to get to this restaurant we were denied entry because I did not have closed toed shoes. I was extremely annoyed, coming all this way with a toddler and my wife. Not once were we informed of the foot ware code by concierge at booking. Same lady booked us dolphins tour. She made a mistake on the dolphins as well by double booking us then speaking to my wife aggressively about getting the “2nd white slip back” which we never received. We booked massages at the spa for 85 minutes. Instead, My wife got a 70 minute massage and I received a 65 minute massage. this ended with an apology and a partial refund. Incredibly dishonest and misleading. Checkout day they made a mistake on charges. This is not a 5 star resort!!!

The property is delightful but spoiled by a large group of teenagers from Colorado who were extremely loud and shouting at 2am every morning keeping us awake. If it wasn’t for that unruly group the vacation would have been delightful.

So the reason why we came here was because of all the great reviews. I would have to say that the resort is clean. The staff is friendly, but the food is extremely subpar. No matter what restaurant we tried, the food, always disappointed us. The room is spacious however the amenities are also subpar. The shower in the master bedroom, barely had any pressure and was lukewarm at best, I filed the complaint with the front desk and nothing was ever done. We went to the convenience store at the resort to buy some suntan lotion and didn’t check the price, that is our fault, but realized when we got the credit card ping they charge us $40 for a can of suntan lotion, which is outrageous. I think we will try a different different place next time

We liked our room and amenities in general, sleepers would have been a good option. The pools were clean and the service at the pool and beach was excellent. We found the food to be pretty good but the drinks not so much. We had dinner at the Italian restaurant and the food was nice, the service was as bit slow, it felt understaffed. Overall we enjoyed our stay and probably be back.

Our second time here and didn’t disappoint. Booked a three bedroom residence for 5 adults. Each room was spacious and included a bathroom. Beautiful accommodation. Food and staff were excellent. Pool and beach area were great and the beach restaurant was our favorite to dine at. We enjoyed every minute of our stay.

This was a 10/10 experience for our family trip to Mexico, and that’s all because of the Marival Distinct Resort! I had done my research and read so many reviews before I booked and I am so glad I didn’t listen to any of the naysayers. We travelled with our 5 year old daughter and she loved every pool, every wave crash on the beach, every meal, and every thoughtful activity the hotel and their amazing staff ran for the kids! Everything for the adults is wonderful as well! We loved how small, and quiet the resort is. We ate at every restaurant and even got to completely indulge at a true Mexican party they ran on the Tuesday night of our trip with a real and very talented Mariachi band! The spread at this event at its buffet dinner was unparalleled. I feel like we were let in on such a magical night and this was simply included for guests, in which all of the staff went above and beyond for! Our room was exactly like the pictures show, with an incredible ocean view and a massive balcony to enjoy. The housekeepers come every day while you are out to refresh the room and they are just so immaculately kept. We had read a few poor reviews that people had left about the sales pitch you get when you arrive, the walk to the beach, and the times at which food is served, and I will admit, I was worried going into this trip with those bad reviews in mind, but am I ever glad I didn’t listen!

Service was excellent particularly at the Insu Sky Bar. My sister accidentally left a white envelope that contained $200 (single dollar bills)USD at this restaurant. We left the restaurant and went to another bar at the same hotel. The staff from Insu was able to locate us and handed us the envelope, the money was all intact. Special shout out to our waiter Kevin. Amazing staff! Thank you!
