I was shocked. This hotel really is a hidden gem. The staff are incredibly nice, I love the art room and my room was so cozy, clean, and the decor was so wonderful I took pictures so I can copy it for my bedroom at home. 😂 Every time I come home to visit family I will definitely be staying here.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. I love that this a local hotel! At first at arrival you may be turned off by the location and even the front entrance of the hotel. But once going in that all goes away. It’s a small hotel with studios rooms suitable for families. I loved how there wasn’t many rooms it made it feel as if you had a lot more privacy. Rooms are clean and spacious and hotel staff are very professional and nice. Close to subway for transportation or you can always Uber.

I really enjoyed the artsie part of the hotel. There is a small little area for having coffee or sit in that has been filled with a local artists work. If you are lucky enough to get room 701 it comes with a large patio. The patio can hold more people than the room can with seating for 8 people. I felt the rate was great, and the only negative would be the Uber bills did add up as each direction average at $38 each way into Manhattan.

The experience was awesome! Our receptionist, Aaron, was quick and efficient during check-in. He was very hospitable and welcoming. The room was exceptionally clean and conveniently supplied with home essentials and toiletries. Loved the convenience store at the corner as well! Will definitely recommend the Modernist hotel and also visiting again soon.

This hotel has the feel of a boutique in the midst of a very humble, family-owned, and modest business amongst the "concrete jungle" of NY. The unique blend of comfort, warmth, and cleanliness adds to an incomparable hospitable experience that brings us back repeatedly on our necessary and regular visits to NYC. The beautiful skyline, the ambient lounge space to retreat to, and the modern and functional room makes for a great escape. The decorum is minimalistic and clean looking modern, and clearly with well thought out motifs. The tall ceilings, electric operated blinds, pseudo olive tree placed in an accent of a floor vase, are just examples of the expansile and eclectic feel of a room here. We always find our room refreshed and neatly sanitized on arriving back from our daily itinerary. If you need a cozy, affordable place with a warm touch within reach of the city in a neighboring outer borough, this is the one to choose! We are so grateful to have this establishment in this apartment style conversion to hotel in this vicinity filled with diverse restaurants and neighborhood feel. Thanks Modernist! We will be back again!

Absolutely wonderful hotel with spacious, clean rooms, an incredibly warm and welcoming staff, and an art gallery that was the perfect place to enjoy a morning latte. I loved the residential feeling of the neighborhood (made me miss living in Queens) and how close we were to multiple trains and Manhattan. We even purchased some art from the gallery to take home with us. If you like to sleep in late, consider bringing a sleep mask because the rooms get amazing natural light in the morning. We will absolutely be returning!
