"We stayed in the cottage and it was exceedingly charming and comfortable. Staff were truly kind and gracious, and we had two great meals at the main restaurant. The nature trail on the property was a nice bonus. Great location near the national park and close to other restaurants, too. Staying at the Kilauea Lodge was the highlight of our trip."

"Jon was an excellent host. Property is 200 yards from a lightly traveled riad so very quiet. Surrounded by tropical forest only 1 mile from entrance to volcanoes national park and 25 minutes from Hilo. Room was huge, about 27'x21' with a private covered deck to listen to the rain and pheasants who occupy the surrounding forest at night. Building has a sgared common area with common kitchen. This was possibly the most unique setting I've ever had the pleasure of staying at; this was a hobby farm filled with free-range animals that wandered all over the grounds. "It is a very interesting place. There is no air conditioning, so you hear all of the nature sounds - most of which I couldn't identify. It is unbelievably clean!!! The owner has much pride in it. The wife shared with me all of her dreams for the place - including a hot tub, an additional garden space, a space for chickens and an office for her."
