City Park is a fashionable district in Denver wrapping around its namesake green park. You’ll find a zoo, museums and plenty of sports fields in one of the city’s leafiest areas. Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere as you wander through a park set apart from the hubbub of city life.
Enjoy a family meal on a lovely summer afternoon at one of City Park’s picnic spots. Let your kids run wild in the children’s playground. Meander along the shoreline of Ferril Lake or Duck Lake. Stroll between the arches of the majestic colonnade fronting the City Park Pavilion. Wheel Fun Rentals offers bicycles for family members of all sizes.
Study the City Statue and the Martin Luther King Memorial. Join a sports game on one of the baseball, football and soccer fields and watch locals playing tennis. At the eastern end of the park is the Meadow at City Park, a vast open field. Adjacent, view exhibits at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to learn about the Rocky Mountains region.
Walk northwest for about 10 minutes to reach the Denver Zoo, which has a 4-D theater, a carousel and a train ride past Chilean flamingos. See the African lion, Siberian tiger and Asian elephant, among other fearsome and fascinating creatures. A little south of the park, attend a concert at historic Bluebird Theater. The structure dates back to 1913 and is famous for its concerts and musical tribute acts.
Surrounded by City Park West, Congress Park and the Skyland zone, the district is a little east of the city center of Denver. From the Colorado State Capitol, walk east for 45 minutes or ride a bus to get to the heart of the area. While you’re in the city, consider visiting other nearby zones, including Lincoln Park, Capitol Hill and Five Points.
