Travel Guide
Burlington featuring a house
Shop in the popular malls or explore the natural beauty of several community parks in one of Middlesex County’s most delightful suburbs.

Experience New England charm in Burlington, Massachusetts. Drive just 30 minutes north of Boston to this town in Middlesex County. Historic buildings, beautiful parks and a bevy of shopping opportunities await.

Burlington was first settled in 1641. Appreciate its colonial past, evident in the many red brick houses lining its streets. Walk along the Heritage Trail to see the town’s historic buildings. Learn more about Burlington’s rich history at the Burlington Historical Museum, located in a 19th-century schoolhouse. Historical murals created by local artists adorn the walls.

Stroll through the Town Common, a large grassy area located in the center of town. Play basketball or tennis at the adjacent Simonds Park. Various sports fields, a skate park and a jungle gym offer recreational opportunities. Practice your ice skating skills any time of year at Burlington Ice Palace.

Enjoy the great outdoors in Burlington’s many natural spaces. Explore more than 200 acres (80 hectares) of meadows, forests and wetlands in Mary Cummings Park. Hike or bike along 13 miles (21 kilometers) of trails through the Burlington Landlocked Forest.

Step back in time at the Woburn Second Parish Meeting House, one of the state’s oldest religious buildings. Built in 1732, the large white-sided building was an important meeting site for the Patriots during the American Revolutionary War.

Check out Burlington’s many shopping options. Browse over 180 stores and restaurants in the upscale Burlington Mall. Fans of the popular comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop will recognize Burlington Mall as the film’s main location. Browse the retail selections at nearby shopping centers Middlesex Commons and Wayside Commons.

Explore Burlington by foot or car. Sidewalks line many of the streets in town, but because most destinations aren’t located within walking distance of each other, it’s advisable to have a car. Boston is just 17 miles (27 kilometers) southeast. In under 30 minutes, reach the state’s bustling capital city.

Burlington was very nice. It was Boston that was so disappointing. Boston is dirty and the historic sights are sad. This city has no respect for history, nothing is sacred. The sight of the Boston Massacre has a train station in it!

Was a great area with tons of shopping malls and super close to Salem and Boston. Only an hour drive to Plymouth rock!
