I stayed here during my first visit to Amsterdam, and it was absolutely brilliant. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind and the room was gorgeous. I refused to pay €25 for breakfast as I believe that to be rather extortionate, however the evening meals in the restaurants were delicious. Will definitely be back!

Pleasant experience would definitely recommend, easy to get to the centre, and to many of our tourists sights from here. The public transport facilities are very good so you would not have any issue getting to places!

Had a terrible experience on Tuesday morning April 23rd had to get up early to take a taxi to Central station. No staff was seen at the desk. Waited at the desk for a few minutes before a man came ask if we needed anything. He was not friendly or understanding at all. Yes it was very early in the morning but he seemed bothered by my questions with a stand off attitude. I turned to talk to my wife, he disappeared to the back, I went back to try as ask him for assistance again and I heard him suck his teeth from behind the wall. He did not return. Terrible customer service.

The hotel is very nice, we enjoyed our stay as a family, the breakfast could be improved on anyway as there seems to be not so many options to pick from. Good facilities, good location as well.

A fantastic hotel with a great vibe ! I would recommend this hotel to anyone waiting to visit Amsterdam , a great hotel , with on site facilities for relaxing ! The spa and pool are absolutely a must visit when staying here ! And also the bar which offers great drinks & also bar snack meals which are very tasty and value for money ! The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the metro station Overamstel which makes it very easy and convenient to move around in the city ! I recommend the van der valk hotel a lot !

Shocking service for a luxury hotel.
Disappointing experience. Negatives: From the moment we checked in, the front office ladies were moody and unpleasant. We requested an iron and were put on hold for 25 minutes before giving up and going to reception to request it. The next day we waited for our room to be cleaned all day despite having the “makeup my room” sign active. After being out the whole day and reminding the front desk to clean our room, we returned at 1am and our room had not been serviced nor had we received new towels. On one of the evenings I got quite sick after a horrendous taxi journey and the front desk staff did not assist my partner or me. Quite sad. Overall the service has been shockingly bad for a luxury hotel. The positives: The decor is lovely and it’s a nice hotel, good location (near the metro and airport and close enough to get to the city centre without all the rowdy crowds), the rooms are nice, comfy bed and good shower. Mathius at reception was the only helpful staff on our checkout. Real shame as I was looking forward to our anniversary trip being memorable during my first time in Amsterdam.

Rooms are small. Too small for 2 people and impossible with large luggages. Also, Weird bathroom set-up as the shower and the toilet share a sliding door. So, not good for more than one person unless you’re quite comfortable about everything being out in the open. The shower leaked into the bathroom due to this awful design flaw. There is a counter in the middle to wash your hands. No closet space. Bed was ok with a laughable 1 inch mattress topper. Guests smoke weed in the stairwell and can be loud. The doors are always being slammed. We found the Front desk was incredibly rude, we’re English speakers and they continued to speak Dutch in front of us. We felt uncomfortable. If you need to know what type of property this is and their clientele — the hotel charges a deposit for robes, umbrella and you must pay for slippers. What a joke. Expedia and hotel has been marking this property as “upscale” to cheat customers to pay higher taxes. Upscale doesn’t make this a 4 star hotel - far from it. Far too expensive if the rate is over $125 per night. Also, there’s only one Metro and it’s far from the city center. Do yourself a favor and find a hotel in the Centrum. Otherwise, you will waste your time traveling back & forth. The only positive thing I can say is the cleaning staff kept the room clean.

I think the property is really nice and my only qualm is about the room cleaning. We left the switch on to signal make up my room but returned to the room beds not made up. I spoke with front desk and was informed that if we had any personal belongings on the bed then they won’t make it up, fair enough even though we may have had like just a jeans or a shirt. The next day we were out of bath liquid and our room coffee cups were used. They made the beds, but left us without bath liquid, as well as coffee cups left dirty and not replaced. We were beginning to wonder if the cleaning people had an issue with us. It’s the first time I’ve encountered something like that and found it strange for the standard of the hotel as the hotel itself was really nice and front desk staff very attentive and helpful. Overall a great hotel besides the room cleaning fiasco.

Room appeared very clean, however the mattress was noticeably quite stained. Beds, including bunks in the kid area were very comfortable. Food was great in restaurant, including great service. Our room was not ready for 3pm check in, however we were provided a beverage in the restaurant to compensate. Very safe neighborhood, not any amenities near by, but easy metro access.
